FCC PULLS HATFIELD OFF PROJECT TO UPDATE REPORT ON E-911 IMPEDIMENTS

The FCC has pulled telecom consultant Dale Hatfield off a project to update his 2002 report on impediments to wireless E-911 deployment, we learned Fri. Hatfield, former chief of the FCC抯 Office of Engineering & Technology, had been working on the project about 6 months. He was removed from the project late last week, sources said. Reached in Colo., where he lives, Hatfield said he didn抰 want to comment on the report. One source said the report may have touched on problems with applying E-911 to VoIP service, one of FCC Chmn. Kevin Martin抯 initiatives. The FCC also didn抰 comment by our deadline.
