Cellphone operators are best positioned to benefit from mobile TV抯 arrival, and probably best able to promote it, said Salil Dalvi, NBC vp-mobile at the National Assn. of Broadcasters show in Las Vegas. He said other delivery methods, such as video iPods or streaming media, have significant liabilities, such as difficulty of use and inability to satisfy demand for impulse TV viewing. NBC already is delivering as many as 30 million video streams a day to nearly 2 million subscribers, Dalvi said in a keynote. He refused to give revenue figures, in response to our question, but said a cable TV-like subscription model appears to work best, with cellphone operators paying NBC for programming they deliver to subscribers.
