VERIZON GETS VIDEO FRANCHISE IN SOUTHERN CAL.

The Cal. PUC granted Verizon the first state-issued video franchise under a law that took effect Jan. 1, adhering to administrative rules the PUC adopted March 2. Verizon was the first company to file under those rules and the PUC needed only a couple of days to review the application. In its announcement of the franchise approval, Verizon praised the PUC for its rapid action on the application. The franchise allows Verizon to offer its FiOS TV service to 45 southern Cal. cities and towns in L.A., Orange, Ventura and San Bernardino, in addition to the 18 communities Verizon serves under local franchises. Verizon didn't specify its rollout plans.
