CLECS GO OVER FCC'S HEAD TO HILL ON INTERCARRIER COMPENSATION

Competitive local exchange carriers asked Congress to block the FCC's effort to overhaul intercarrier compensation. They sent letters to House and Senate Commerce Committee leaders. CompTel, Comcast, TW Telecom and nine CLECs asked Congress "to ensure that the Commission, at the very least, issues the actual text of the proposed rules for public comment." Some proposals that the FCC is considering "would create massive disruption in the operational and financial relationships between carriers," they said. The CLECs aren't first to ask Congress for help on this issue. Last week, the National Telecommunications Cooperative Association wrote Congress denouncing industry proposals to set a uniform terminating access rate.
