TESTS OF WHITE-SPACES DEVICES WRAPPING UP

The FCC tested two white-spaces devices in four places at FedEx Field in Landover, Md. Supporters and opponents of opening the TV white spaces to unlicensed mobile devices disagreed about how to interpret the results. The commission is scheduled Tuesday to run a last day of tests, at Broadway's Majestic Theater in New York. The FCC's Office of Engineering and Technology tested a device each made by Philips Electronics and Singapore's Institute for Infocomm Research. The tests, which started in the morning and lasted through the first quarter of the Redskins' preseason game, were attended by officials from the companies that provide the devices, the NFL, ESPN, Shure and the Association for Maximum Service TV. The results were consistent with what the OET found in bench tests at the FCC lab.
