HOUSE COMMERCE TO TAKE UP BILLS ON SPECTRUM INVENTORY, CALLER ID SPOOFING

The House Commerce Committee plans Wednesday to mark bills with bipartisan support on nspectrum inventory and caller ID spoofing. The committee plans to mark up HR-3125 by nChairman Henry Waxman, D-Calif., that would require the NTIA and the FCC to do an ninventory of spectrum between 225 MHz and 3.7 GHz, and HR-3019 by Rep. Jay Inslee, nD-Wash., that would simplify moving federal users off bands to be reviewed by a nthree-member technical panel reporting to the NTIA and the FCC. Waxman's inventory bill is nsimilar to legislation in the Senate (S-649) by Communications Subcommittee Chairman John nKerry, D-Mass., which awaits a floor vote. House Commerce plans votes on the bipartisan n2009 Truth in Caller ID Act (HR-1258), sponsored by Rep. Eliot Engel, D-N.Y. The bill, which nwould ban manipulation of caller ID information, is similar to legislation passed last month by nthe Senate (S-30).
