Technology and jobs

摘要

The author questions whether a technological society can prosper or even survive if the creation and production of the technology are restricted to an elite while the masses can only access the technology through purchase and consumption. The author also questions whether the majority of a technological society's members feel they have a stake in that society if their sole contribution to the society is to be a consumer, and whether consumption provides enough meaning and value to their lives. The author examines these points, and elaborates on the views of six authors.
