Textiles with fire-protection characteristics typically have a major disadvantage: they are so thick and stiff that they cannot be used in the same way as conventional fabrics. Now the materials specialist Toray Industries, Inc., Tokyo/Japan, has developed an alternative: a new fabric called Gulfeng. It offers very good fire protection and is extremely thin. It is even available as paper.
