A flame-retardant (FR) composite designed for use in additive manufacturing processes has been launched by Markforged of Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA. At a thickness of 3 mm, the reinforced polyamide (PA) - called Onyx FR - has achieved a rating of V-0 for Underwriters Laboratories (UL)'s UL 94 flammability test (Standard for tests for flammability of plastic materials for parts in devices and appliances)-meaning that the material stops burning within ten seconds of being ignited.
