As the co-owner of a Web-based business, I approached Search engine optimization for dummies with eager anticipation, and I was not disappointed. While the book is obviously intended for the novice, Peter Kent provides useful information for even a seasoned Internet professional. In Part Ⅰ, the author describes how and where people search, gives recommendations for a one-hour Web site makeover to make your site more friendly to search engines, and sets the stage for the rest of the book. Not surprisingly, Kent notes that Google is the top search engine with more than 50% of the search traffic, followed by Yahoo, MSN, Ask, and the Open Directory Project (www.dmoz.org). "Get into all the systems on the preceding list, and you're in front of probably more than 95 percent of all searchers" (19). He then qualifies that statement by explaining that you have a chance to be in front if your Web site ranks highly enough.
