The author, on the basis of many standards and quidelines on soil fertilisation in forest nurseries, underlines importance of physical features of soils when choosing ground for nursery. The content of thick dust clay fraction (0,02-0,005 mm o) in humus layer being above 5% makes the soil culture in a nursery difficult periodically. The alkaline reaction of soil or substrates is unfavourable at production of forest tree seedlings, similarly as a very reaction. In practice, the alkalisation of soils in forest nurseries is too often ignored. The author presents also the method for calculating the nitrogen dose for soils or substrates in forest nurseries basing on main factors influencing the balance of this element.
