The prerequisites for decades-long maintenance of production potential of bare root nurseries-the example of Rzasniki Nursery

The study presents an attempt that was made to determine the most basic prerequisites that have to be respected in order to ensure the lasting maintenance o productivity of bareroot forest nurseries. Analyses were conducted based on the example of an old and still highly efficient nursery in Gizycko Forest District (Northeastern Poland). The nursery has maintained its productive potential for the period of 50 years of producing bareroot-plan- Ting stock. A detailed analysis of the past nursery operations: mineral and organic fertilization, crop rotation and Crop succession as well as the protection measures applied, has been carried out for the period of the last 19 years. Concluding remarks emphasize the need to respect the set of several very basic recommendations in order to Maintain the high quality output of nursery production.
