By now you have likely heard an earful of outrage in the gun rights community about the stab in the back that is the Bush Administration's Solicitor General's brief in the D.C. v. Heller case before the Supreme Court. By the time you read this, a decision will likely be mere days away.rnFor decades gun owners hoped that the Supreme Court, with a conservative majority, would one day hear such a case and rule, once and for all, that the Second Amendment protects an individual right to keep and bear arms-not a collective right of the states, as the lying anti-gun hoplophobes insist. But now that such a chance has come, the Bush Administration has submitted an amicus brief in support of the D.C. gun ban, denying that the Second Amendment is any barrier whatsoever to all of the unconstitutional gun laws that have been enacted since 1934.rnThe DOJ brief should have simply ex-rnpressed the clear intent of the Founders that the right to keep and bear arms protected by the Second Amendment should be treated with as much respect as the right to free speech protected by the First Amendment.
