Because of uneven geographical distribution characteristics of wind power and load centers in China, large-scale wind power should be delivered to central or southeast load centers through a transmission corridor over great distances. However, it is found that the load demand, vulnerability, safety, stability, and economy of power systems would be the criteria for the selection of the access point for the wind power transmission corridor. The decision-making result also varies with wind power penetration and load level. Hence, this paper presents a scenario-based methodology for selecting the proper access point. The scenario generation and reduction approach are used to generate several representative wind power penetration and load levels. The multiobjective decision-making problem is suggested to be solved based on theory of information entropy and the analytic hierarchy process (AHP) method. The established index system takes into account the active power demand, vulnerability of power system transmission networks, power system safety and stability, and operational economy. This method was used to select an access point for Hubei Province in central China that receives large-scale wind power from northern China. The results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed methodology for selecting the access point of a wind power transmission corridor.
