At work amidst the waves

In the harbour mole of the small Basque town of Mutriku, Wells turbines are for the first time generating electricity commercially from wave power. And in Scotland the first "Oyster 800" has been installed at a test site off the Orkney Islands.The Basque energy supplier Ente Vasco de la Energfa (EVE) hopes to supply around 250 households with electricity from wave power. For this, a 300 kW power plant has been installed in the new harbour mole at the entrance to Mutriku harbour on the Spanish Atlantic coast. It has 16 Wells turbines and the energy generation is based on the principle of the Oscillating Water Column (OWC).
