Wind farm plans for Gobi Desert

SB Energy Corp., the renewable energy arm of the Japanese Softbank Corp., wants to find a wind power site in the Gobi Desert together with the Mongolian company Newcom LLC. The first wind farm, with 300 MW, could go into operation as early as 2014, and feasibility studies for three further wind farms are to follow. In the next few years, wind farms with a total capacity of 7,000 MW could thus be put up in the Mongolian part of the Gobi Desert. The activities are the result of a cooperation between the Desertec Foundation and the Japan Renewable Energy Foundation (JREF).
