摘要

The digital revolution has allowed me to resurrect noir giclee, a technique once considered obsolete, and to explore the inherent beauty within the simple structure of a flower. I was creating noir giclee prints—prints created out of the dark—as a college botany teacher back in the 1970s. With my duties including photographing and cataloging rare plants, I wanted the images to be both scientifically accurate and pleasing to look at. Only a few of we botanical types even remember how to create these images. Back in the '70s, this technique pushed the limits of the available films. You could waste a lot of frames just getting one image you were after. With the advent of high-resolution digital cameras in recent years, I felt the time was right to start creating images out of black once more.
