Congratulations to A.S.G. Bruggeling, who celebrated his 90th birthday earlier this year. As a long-time active member of FIP and fib, Prof. Bruggeling chaired the FIP Commission 2 on Prestressing Steels and Systems. Under his chairmanship this was a highly efficient body with respect to the development of design criteria and aspects of validation by testing of pre-stress-ing steels and tendons. In 1974, the first edition of the FIP-Recommen-dations for the Approval and Acceptance of Steels for Pre-stressing Tendons were published. The second up-dated and enhanced edition followed in 1982. These recommendations served for subsequent decades as common international basis for the acceptance of pre-stressing system. In fact, the EOTA-rules for the acceptance of post-tensioning systems of 2012 are based on them. Besides these recommendations, Bruggeling's commission dealt with a series of other highly important topics of pre-stressed concrete construction, e.g. protection of pre-stressing steel against corrosion, bond of pre-tensioned strands; non-metallic tensile element for tendons; cryogenic behavior of structural materials for LNG vessels, etc. The results of this work were published in various FIP reports.
