House Energy and Commerce Committee Passes Nuclear Waste Policy Amendment Act of 2019

The Environment and Climate Change Subcommittee marked up 15 bills during a session on September 26. The last of the 15 bills discussed was the Nuclear Waste Policy Amendments Act of 2019, H.R. 2699 that representatives Jerry McNerney (D-Calif.) and John Shimkus (R-Ill.) introduced on May 14, 2019 (SF No. 1261 May 17, 2019). A previous version of the bill, H.R. 3053, passed the House in 2018 by a vote of 340-82 (SF No. 1210 May 11, 2018). Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell never brought a Senate version up for discussion or a vote for political reasons. The subcommittee approved the bill, which will need approval by the full Energy and Commerce Committee and the full House of Representatives.
