Reopening the Space Frontier

This book tells the story of why and how the 'space frontier' opened in 1961 with President Kennedy's famous speech, but then so dramatically closed again in 1969 during the Nixon era. It wrongly asserts that Nixon cancelled Apollo and then examines why that was so, and contains some interesting information I had not encountered before on his reasons for not pushing beyond earth orbit. Other chapters deal with the response of space enthusiasts to the closing of the space frontier, and the discouraging effects of the 1967 Space Treaty, which precludes nations from appropriating territory in outer space.
