摘要

Numerical modeling of the space weather system is at an exciting juncture, in some ways similar to that of terrestrial weather modeling in the 1950s [e.g., Siscoe, 2006, 2007]. Improved scientific understanding of the physical processes underlying space weather, combined with advancing computational capabilities, is making physics-based modeling of the Sun-Earth system increasingly useful not only for scientific research but also for important aspects of operational space weather forecasting. As a result, both researchers and forecasters want to make use of space weather models that are developed by others.
