The American Astronautical Society (AAS) held its 56th annual meeting and national conference, AAS Imagine '09, at NASA Johnson Space Center's Gilruth Center in Houston, Texas, during Wednesday and Thursday, 2-3 December 2009. Advertised in advance via the organization's website and e-mails as a departure from the usual, "a space conference like no other" and one that would "explore remarkable ideas making a difference in diverse fields that could transform the space enterprise," AAS Imagine '09 lived up to its billing. Ahost of extremely creative, productive individuals, each having a passion for innovation in their respective field of endeavor, fulfilled the conference planners' pledge that they would "actively engage attendees, providing knowledge and inspiration, and encouraging breakthroughs in thought."
