The U.S. government remains one of the largest buyers of satellites, launch vehicles, and satellite services. U.S. space activities are primarily divided between three agencies: the Department of Defense (DoD), the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). NASA has by far the largest space budget in the U.S. government, and has been increasing its share of overall spending over the past few years. NASA represented 66.4 percent of all space spending in the U.S. government in FY13. That figure increased to 70.9 percent in the FY 19 request. NASA's budget has been climbing as spending has increased to fund development of both in-house and commercial human spaceflight technologies. NASA has also focused on developing scientific missions, such as the James Webb Space Telescope. Even though NASA projects that its spending will remain level going forward, increases are likely to continue as the agency turns its attention to deep space exploration.
