Total Produced. More than 260 Centaurs have been produced. Application. Centaur upper stages are used for Earth orbital and interplanetary payloads. Depending on the launch vehicle, a Centaur can boost up to 8,200 kilograms to geosynchronous transfer orbit. Price Range. A Centaur costs $30 million to $40 million.
