Northrop Training Lab Simulates Air Defense

Northrop Grumman Information Systems of Reston, Va., has developed a training laboratory that allows U.S. Army soldiers to simulate air battles in a virtual reality environment, according to a March 31 Northrop Grumman press release.rnThe company built the Virtual, Inter-active and Collaborative Training Resource/Environment in Huntsville, Ala., as part of its early development work on an Army program called the Integrated Battle Command System. Using air and missile defense requirements supplied by the Army, Northrop Grumman created a simulator where soldiers can train and interact with avatars, which are 3-D computer representations of human beings.
