Hughes Satellite Router Certified for Encrypted Use

Hughes Network Systems LLC of Germantown, Md., announced March 10 that its HX280 high-performance commercial satellite router has achieved an advanced cryptographic security certification. The so-called Federal Information Processing Standards (FIPS) 140-2 Security Level 2 certification, awarded by the U.S. National Institute of Standards and Technology, broadens the potential national security applications of the HX280, which Hughes says is optimized for mobile military communications.
