The U.S. Air Force is studying the possibility of using its next generation of missile warning satellites to help keep a constant eye on the weather and help military forecasters stay on top of rapidly changing meteorological conditions in political hot spots. The service started a demonstration effort in fall 2011 to see if the Space Based Infrared Sys-tem (SBIRS) can provide weather forecasters with continuous real-time data, according to Air Force Space and Missile Systems Center spokeswoman Carla Rose-Pryor.
