Orbcomm Cleared To Install Gateway Station in Oman

Satellite-based machine-to-machine communications provider Orbcomm has been cleared to install a gateway Earth station (GES) in Oman following the licencing of its regional service provider, the Rochelle Park, New Jersey, company announced July 29. Mahd Telecom of Muscat, Oman, received the license from the government of Oman. Mahd is Orbcomm's designated service provider for Oman and the rest of the Gulf Cooperation Council states. Meanwhile, Orbcomm said it had signed an agreement to purchase a GES near Rio de Janeiro from its operator. The deal will give Orbcomm ownership of all of its gateways in the Western Hemisphere, the company said.
