Telesat Order A Promising Sign for Broadband

Telesat Canada's order of broadband satellite terminals and other gear from ViaSat Corp. is an indication that this sector of the industry may finally be moving toward a point at which residential consumers can afford the technology, industry officials said. The March 3 order to Carlsbad, Calif. -based ViaSat initially is limited to satellite gateway Earth stations and only gradually will grow to include 50,000 two-way satellite terminals. ViaSat had bested a team led by Alcatel Space of Paris for the contract.
