Atk Building Space Testbed At Arnold Air Force Base

Alliant Techsystems (ATK) of Minneapolis was awarded a $26.1 million contract from the U.S. Air Force's Arnold Engineering Development Center to design, build and install a space hardware testing facility at the Tennessee base, according to a Dec. 1 ATK press release. ATK's Space Threat Assessment Testbed facility will replicate the complex space environments of low Earth orbit and geosynchronous orbit for developmental and early operational testing by the U.S. Department of Defense, National Reconnaissance Office and other federal agencies. Work will be performed at ATK's Goleta, Calif., facility and Arnold and is expected to be complete in 2013.
