India's telecommunications regulator said July 13 that the number of households subscribing to direct-to-home (DTH) pay television rose by nearly 18 percent, to 13.09 million, in the three months ending March 31 compared to Dec. 31.rnThe Telecom Regulatory Authority of India said India now counts 130 pay-TV channels and 168 free-to-air channels being carried by DTH broadcasters.rnIndia has long been considered one of the world's great potential growth markets for satellite-DTH providers, with the bottleneck being the regulatory environment that has slowed access to the market by non-Indian satellite fleet operators.
