A scholar and a practitioner of the 'dismal science', Agarwala has authored an important and a visionary book, which is anything but dismal. Looking out to 2050, Agarwala has articulated an aspirational vision of what India could be when it celebrates its 100th anniversary of becoming a republic. It is a bold vision of shared prosperity going well beyond just reducing poverty, but what is more impressive and important is that he has had the intellectual courage of saying not only 'what' but 'how'. He has articulated a 10-point programme for prosperity in which he lays out in some detail, how India can, in his opinion, pursue a new paradigm of achieving sustainable prosperity.
