Networked media systems are a natural evolution of the transition to digital AV and the proliferation of Ethernet/IP-based networks in our home and work lives. The ability to move away from isolated systems and to deploy professional AV as you would any computer-supported system is a sea change and an opportunity. It is also a potential headache. Consumer-level networking of audio and video is usually insufficient for commercial applications, which thrive on clarity, intelligibility, security, and reliability, and which do not tolerate the variations of latency, sync, and performance that people accept from consumer application such as Netflix.
