Audio has always been undervalued in the digital signage space. Certainly, video is the eye-catching element that draws viewers to the screen. An ongoing challenge for many digital signage network operators and end users has been how to retain their attention beyond a quick glance. Great sounding audio with engaging and relevant content always finds an audience, and remains with the consumer as he strolls the retail store aisles. However, to date, audio has been treated as either a separate entity through "in-store radio" initiatives, or as somewhat of an afterthought, pumping program audio through speakers to complement (or not) video images.
