For commercial audio /visual installers, the appeal and promise of fiberoptic is a single magic cable that is invulnerable to interference and carries audio, video, and data unlimited distances. Yet fiberoptic installations in our business are unusual and despite the optimistic predictions of years past, very little fiberoptic gear is being used except for jobs that are spread out over large areas. While fiberoptic costs have dropped, the economics are still not attractive for most types of installations.
