Two of California's largest planned utility-scale solar projects have held up against major challenges from the environmental community, scoring a victory for developers Tessera Solar and SunPower. Construction of a third — a BrightSource Energy project in Ivanpah Valley — has been halted temporarily by federal officials until the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service wraps up a review of the impact on desert tortoises. In mid-April, the California Supreme Court denied a Sierra Club lawsuit against Tessera Solar's 664-mega-watt Stirling-engine Calico facility.
