Basic positions of A. M. Dzagov's paper "Determination of characteristics of the prone-ness of loess soils to slump-type settlement," which was published in the No. 6 issue of 2009, are discussed. A. M. Dzagov's paper [1] is, in essence, devoted to a presentation of certain suggestions directed, in the opinion of the author, to improvement of the validity of the determination of vertical stresses (settlements and slump-type settlements) for soils prone to slump-type settlement. The author chose a means of increasing the validity of existing methods of analyzing slump-type settlement - reducing the criterion of proneness to slump-type-settlement from ε_(sl) = 0.01 to ε_(sl) = 0.001, and replaced one of the basic characteristics of the slump-type settlement of soils - the initial pressure of slump-type settlement p_(sl) by the structural strength p_(str) of the soil.
