摘要

In the Caribbean, over 300,000 persons were reportedly living with HIV/AIDS in 2005. In Trinidad and Tobago, the incidence was five times higher for girls than boys, ages 15-19. With regard to cervical cancer, the rate reported for the Caribbean was 34.8 per 100,000 populations. Breast cancer continues to be a serious concern with Trinidad and Tobago reporting an estimated 64.5 cases per 100,000 populations. Data from health clinics and desk research were used for this paper. The underlying argument is that the well-being of women in the Caribbean is threatened by socio-economic challenges related to gender and cultural barriers.
