Illinois EPA issues water permit for Cline's Sugar Camp No. 1 mine

The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency on Dec. 11 approved a Section 401 Clean Water Act permit for the latest longwallnmine project of coal operator Chris Cline.nThe Section 401 permit was awarded to Sugar Camp Energy LLC for the surface water impacts of the Sugar Camp No. 1nlongwall mine. "The IEPA Bureau of Water received an application for a Section 401 Water Quality Certification for the dischargenof dredge or fill material into waters of the United States associated with a Section 404 permit application received by the UnitednStates Army Corps of Engineers," IEPA said in a Dec. 11 public notice. "A total of approximately 5,500 linear feet of intermittent streamsnthat are jurisdictional waters of the United States will be impacted by the proposed mine project.
