Edison International ready for EPA rule in Midwest, though Homer City needs work

Generating facilities in the Midwest owned by Edison International subsidiary Edison Mission Group Inc. should be able to meet requirements in the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's recently issued Cross-State Air Pollution Rule, company officials said Aug. 4.nnBecause the company is making changes to comply with a 2006 Illinois rule to reduce emissions, Edison Mission will not need to make significant material changes to comply with the recent EPA regulations, they said.nn"With respect to the coal fleet, EMG has met and continues to remain committed to meeting all of its environmental obligations on time as spelled out in the 2006 Illinois Combined Pollutants Standard Agreement and more recent U.S. EPA regulations," Edison International Chairman, President and CEO Theodore Craver said during the company's Aug. 4 earnings call. "We believe that the efforts to identify cost-effective compliance solutions and the financing strategies to support them will serve us well in the long run even though they present considerable challenges for us in the near term."
