EPA cuts 362 employees; GAO to probe hiring of political appointees

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has completed a voluntary buyout process for 362 employees in an effort to meet President Donald Trump’s call to cut thousands of positions from the agency. An EPA official provided an update on the process Sept. 8, reporting that during the previous week 362 employees agreed to leave the agency, while another 12 employees retired Aug. 31. An additional 33 employees will retire at the end of September, and 45 others are still considering early retirement offers.
