President Donald Trump’s calls for aggressive spending cuts for the federal government, including the U.S. Department of Energy and U.S. EPA, received a tepid response from appropriators in Congress, who are ultimately in charge of crafting a budget bill. But the president could still sway lawmakers, especially those who support Trump’s calls for smaller government. The Trump administration rolled out a fiscal-year 2018 budget blueprint March 16 for defense and discretionary spending. The proposal does not address other items such as mandatory spending, entitlements, revenue and economic projections or policy changes, which will be included in a full budget proposal the White House plans to release in May.
