Acting administrator seeks to reassure EPA staff amid reports of tumult

The U.S. EPA’s acting administrator, Catherine McCabe, has attempted to reassure her staff that existing climate data will be preserved and science will continue to guide the agency’s actions. In a four-minute video that surfaced Feb. 8, McCabe commented on recent executive orders from President Donald Trump that could have a significant impact on agency staff. They included a Jan. 24 order to expedite environmental review processes for certain fast-tracked infrastructure projects as well as a Jan. 30 order that requires two regulations be cut for every new one proposed. McCabe said that although neither of those directives was issued specifically to the EPA, she expects them to have an impact on the agency’s operations.
