US House spending bill would support Yucca Mountain, give more to DOE research

Lawmakers in the U.S. House of Representatives proposed to provide more than $267 million for the Yucca Mountain nuclear waste repository in Nevada and to increase spending for U.S. Department of Energy research programs as part of the new fiscal-year 2019 appropriations bill. The House Committee on Appropriations released the bill May 6 and will hold a subcommittee markup of the legislation May 7. The proposal sought a combined $44.7 billion for energy and water development and related agencies, up $1.5 billion from fiscal-year 2018 enacted levels and $8.17 billion above President Donald Trump’s budget request.
