The Heinemann MP and its progeny, the FN Ml935, were finely crafted first generation submachine guns. Firing from a closed bolt probably gave them a slight edgernin first-round accuracy. The Heinemann's Luger-like toggle-link bolt and its recoiling barrel required many close-tolerance machining operations to manufacture that resulted in high manufacturing costs. Like the Luger pistol, the Heinemann's close-fitting operating mechanism was probably intolerant of dust, mud, carbon-fouling or weak ammunition. Other German machine pistols of the era were more reliable and less expensive. Probably for this reason, the Heinemann MP was not adopted by any known military or police agency. It is one of the rarer European submachine guns that actually went into series production.
