The coverage is of an area much more rural than either of the above titles, with Alnmouth also covered in the earlier volume in the series - Newcastle to Alnmouth. An interesting book, notable for the coverage of the smaller lines and quarry sidings etc., feeding off the route. Whereas the sheer variety in the books reviewed earlier will grab the interest of readers with less direct interest in the area this volume is probably one only of interest to those wishing to research this area specifically. The main items I found of interest were the coverage of the minor lines, for example the zig-zag branch down to Tweed Dock and the North Sunderland Railway. Sadly, it also needed to include reference to loss of life in the two accidents at Goswick (Images 83 & 84). As for a recommendation, in this case probably not one for the general reader but fully up to the usual Middleton standard if this region is within your interest zone.
