THE CORRIS RAILWAY-THE STORY OF A MID-WALES SLATE RAILWAY

Peter Johnson has now completed four books on the Welsh narrow gauge railways for Pen and Sword. This one on the Corris Railway continues the very high standard of its predecessors. The rather complicated history of the early schemes and subsequent changes of ownership, finally coming into the Great Western in 1929 are covered comprehensively but in a very readable fashion. It is a fascinating contrast to the neighbouring Talyllyn Railway and the Corris probably was better maintained under the Imperial ownership but failed to survive because of its one major engineering feature, the Dyfi bridge.
