The author explains in his Introduction all one really needs to know about Cuban steam - the history associated with a network of lines associated with sugar production. From his early association with the country in 2000 he has seen it all but disappear except for the tourist charters around some of the mill systems and now on to the national network. This has enabled some of the old locomotives to be kept in working order while others repose in museums.
