摘要

This article offers a personal view of the development of the field of American Slavic librarianship during the Cold War. Intentionally limiting his remarks to the Russian Republic within the former Soviet Union, the author reminisces about the Russian bibliographic scene in the pre-computer era that preceded his own entry into the field. This era was dominated by the descriptive printed bibliographies of his distinguished predecessors, Karol Maichel and Paul L. Horecky, whose works served as a model for the author's own efforts in this field. Although the retired Slavic curator at Stanford University declines to comment on his own work, he does share his thoughts about the future of Slavic librarianship and bibliography in the age of the Internet.
