Although it is focused on the very small, nanotechnology is poised to have a big impact on a range of commercial products and military equipment. Only a few applications in electronics and consumer applications are now in use, but the number of tools, devices and materials produced by or incorporating nanotechnology are on the rise. The near future may see a series of breakthroughs in materials science and medicine thanks to nanotech research.
